Probiotic Supplementation Effects on Performance, Metabolic Parameters and Hormone Levels of Broilers Subjected to Constant Heat Stress from Three to Six Weeks of Age. Heat stress is a common problem in today’s poultry industry and not only does it decrease growth of the bird, but it jeopardies their immunity and increases mortality. Three different strains of bacillus bacteria that have been highly tested in the OSU FAPC Research Center will be fed to half of the chickens during the trial. This will tell us if the probiotics developed at OSU will alleviate some effects of heat stress, improve net energy gain, and improve the health of the broiler. effect of the supplement is being evaluated at OSU by graduate student Sarah Schobert.
